Ellinbank Primary School is a small rural school which was originally established in 1879. It is located in a scenic dairying area at the foot of the Strezelecki Ranges, 12 kilometres south of Warragul. Currently the school enrolment is 24 students. We have a teaching Principal, two classroom teachers, one part-time specialist teacher (Visual Arts & Science) and a part-time Business Manager. The school operates two classrooms comprising of the Junior classroom (Years Prep-2) and the Senior classroom (Years 3-6).

Ellinbank Primary School aims to promote integrity, lifelong learning and the attainment of excellence. The school provides a sequential, comprehensive curriculum which embodies the Victorian Curriculum and also our local initiatives of environmental science and permaculture. We aim to provide:

  • a sequential curriculum program for all students P-6 in the key learning areas
  • the development and acquisition of skills and knowledge
  • the development of skills in co-operative and personal decision making and problem solving, and critical thinking
  • to ensure the delivery of a teaching and learning program which is challenging and appropriate to the needs of all students
  • to develop a positive, caring and safe learning environment

The school facilities include 3 teaching classrooms, general office, separate Art/Craft facility, multi-purpose room and library. There is also a staff room which doubles as a kitchen. The attractive grounds include sealed playing areas which includes a three-quarter sized basketball court, outdoor volleyball court and bat-tennis court, a sports oval and environmental studies and permaculture garden. We have immediate access to community facilities adjacent to the school grounds, which include tennis courts, community hall and badminton courts. Recent upgrades have occurred with new playground equipment, toilets and library equipment and a sports/shelter shed.

An enthusiastic and dedicated parent community supports the school facilities and programs through working bees, reading, excursions, weekly lunch orders all-year round and swimming programs. Students in Years 3-6 have the opportunity to attend a variety of camps with the Mt Worth cluster of schools while the P-2 students have a school sleep over.


Selection Criteria

SC1 Capacity to undertake routine support tasks across a range of functions in one or more work areas within a school environment.

SC2 Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support and/or attendant care to students where necessary.

SC3 Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software or technical equipment as relevant to the position.

SC4 Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support, students and parents.

SC5 A commitment to professional learning and growth.

SC6 Demonstrated capacity to perform all duties associated with attending to and caring for students with various social and emotional needs.


Role

This position requires attendance on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between the hours of 9:00am -3:30pm.

The position also requires the availability of the successful applicant to attend all school camps and excursions.

Undertakes routine tasks that are usually carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established and direction is readily available.

Work has little scope for deviation. Problems can usually be solved by reference to well documented procedures and instructions and clearly established practices. Deviation from established procedures will require reference to others for guidance and direction. Assistance is readily available when problems arise. An experienced employee at range 1 will exercise limited judgement within clearly defined guidelines and well established practices that relate specifically to the tasks performed.

Does not carry responsibility for the work of others. More experienced employees will provide basic guidance and advice to others relating to tasks within the work area.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Qualification requirements do not operate at range 1. Certification requirements may be required to legally perform specific tasks - e.g. driver's licence, first aid, safe food handling.

Conditions of Employment

This vacancy is specifically linked to Student Support Funding and is ongoing. If the funding reduces or ceases during the first seven years of employment, employment may cease subject to the provision of at least 12 weeks’ notice.
