The Senior Lead Science Consultant, Healthcare & Research will have a strong interest in the study of brain health, a special aptitude and interest in technical and scientific information and be a highly driven individual who is able to deliver against tight timelines. This role will lead the scientific aspects involved in the deployment of Cogstate technology and services to academic institutions and collaborators conducting research studies and public private partnership studies, as well as healthcare customers, in line with the company’s SOPs and industry best practices.

The Senior Lead Science Consultant, Healthcare & Research will have demonstrated experience managing a full workload of projects, as well as confidence and composure in handling stressful situations – communicating calmly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, particularly in areas of disagreement. This role will have responsibility to mentor, train and develop other members of the Healthcare & Research science team to foster development within their role and career growth within the company, whilst learning about Cogstate products and technology and our delivery models


  • Review research study protocols and advise on the configuration of Cogstate software to match study designs and scientific objectives.
  • Consultation for research teams globally in relation to grant applications, proposal writing, research design, battery selection, and data analysis.
  • Understand and advise on cognitive outcome measures and cognitive tests (test integrity and completion criteria, study baseline, calculation of standardised scores, etc.).
  • Lead discussions with sponsors to resolve scientific queries and participate in study planning.
  • Critically evaluate internal processes and scientific methodologies and lead changes and improvements.
  • Lead the process and team in reviewing and monitoring cognitive data for completion, integrity and performance.
  • Participate in research and development of cognitive tests, including scientific publications.
  • Analysis of Cogstate data from clinical, research and normative databases.
  • Assess ways to streamline activities on new or complex studies and ensure proper internal documentation is available to assist other team members in completing similar activities in the future.
  • Develop documentation that responds to unique customer requests relating to topics such as inclusion, reliable change monitoring, data monitoring, normative data, and test functionalities.
  • Lead the review and approval of study scientific documentation.
  • Write and review specification documents in the development of new and existing Cogstate products.
  • Lead the requirements for creating standardised scientific documentation for research studies including user manuals, progress reports, interpretation guides, test descriptions and other standard documents and guidelines.
  • Responsible for line management of science team members, including career development and regular reviews.
  • Directing work of the Healthcare & Research science team including delegating tasks, managing their workload and customer interactions, ensuring proper oversight on quality of work, and providing feedback on performance. Responsible and accountable for all science related activities, including those delegated.
  • Maintain appropriate understanding of day to day status of scientific related deliverables on all major studies being managed within the team.
  • Ensure all team members’ complete organization training programs as required.


  • BA/BS degree preferably in psychology, neuroscience, behavioural science, computer science, statistics or a related area.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in business management, research, clinical trial or pharmaceutical environment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with data analysis, statistics, and scientific writing.
  • Experience with cognition and/or neuropsychological testing.
  • Scientific background or understanding of a research environment.

  • Strong grasp of study deliverables and timelines, with ability to manage competing priorities - ensuring that all deliverables met, on time (or adequate communication is sent); peak periods do not result in other studies being ignored.
  • Ability to assess the inherent risks of a situation, their potential impact on a project and based on this information; with limited support make timely decisions.
  • Excellent problem solving/decision making skills.
  • Excellent customer management skills and demonstrated ability to understand customer needs, have difficult conversations with internal and external stakeholders and customers, and understand impacts on the overall study.
  • Demonstrates exceptional inter-personnel and client communication skills.
  • Good commercial awareness.
